What drew you to Cullen and Dykman?
I was drawn to Cullen and Dykman because of the firm’s strong culture and reputation. I was excited about the opportunity to learn from talented attorneys while being part of such a welcoming environment.
What have you appreciated most about the Summer Associate program?
What I have appreciated most about the Summer Associate program is how genuinely kind and welcoming everyone at the firm has been. I also valued the opportunity to work on assignments across various practice areas, which allowed me to gain exposure to different fields of law. This experience has broadened my legal knowledge and helped me figure out areas that interest me most.
What project challenged you the most this summer, and how did it help you grow?
The project that challenged me the most was working on an Action to Quiet Title matter. It was my first time drafting a Verified Complaint in a real-world setting outside of law school, particularly for a Trusts and Estates matter. Although it was challenging, it was an incredibly valuable learning experience. It helped strengthen my legal writing skills and taught me the importance of developing a clear narrative and effectively telling a client’s story to the Court.
What is the most valuable skill you gained while working as a Summer Associate?
The most valuable skill I gained was learning the importance of building professional relationships. Networking with associates and partners across different practice groups helped me understand the value of collaboration and mentorship. I learned that developing strong relationships is an important part of becoming a successful attorney.
What is something you learned in law school that helped you during the Summer Associate program? Has anything from the program helped you better understand law school?
My Legal Writing and Corporations courses were especially helpful during the Summer Associate program. Legal Writing helped me prepare for assignments such as research memoranda and legal analysis, while Corporations helped me better understand different terms and concepts that came up in various matters. This experience has given me a better appreciation for how the concepts I learn in law school translate into practical legal work.
Is there anyone in your life who influenced your decision to go to law school?
My mom has been one of the biggest influences in my decision to attend law school. She has always encouraged me to challenge myself and from a young age told me that she could see me becoming a lawyer.
What advice do you have for prospective Summer Associates?
My advice for prospective Summer Associates is to be curious, open-minded, and take advantage of every opportunity to learn. Introduce yourself to as many people as possible, ask questions, and be willing to explore different practice areas. The summer goes by quickly, and there is so much to learn.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, going on long walks or runs, and trying new restaurants.
