June 27, 2011

Going the Extra Mile - Cullen and Dykman Gains In-Depth Knowledge of Client's Business Need and Applies Extensive Experience in the Relevant Law to Achieve Client's Goals

Members of the Corporate Department recently assisted a large New York State utility in its efforts to identify and assess possible approaches to reducing its current annual real property tax burden which currently exceeds one hundred million dollars. This effort required significant research and analysis in the areas of federal and state constitutional law, review of relevant state statutes and an assessment of controlling state court valuation decisions over the past several decades. The firm successfully completed this assignment in an exceedingly tight timeframe. Critical to the success of this effort was a thorough knowledge of the client's business evolution as well as the changing legislative, regulatory and competitive landscapes within which it operates. Beyond knowing the law, knowing the client's business is essential to providing timely and helpful counseling. The firm drew upon the knowledge it has acquired as a result of its continued representation of this client for over thirty years to meet the client's goal. The firm has assisted its various clients for over one hundred years in successfully minimizing their property tax burdens.
