The COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak has dramatically impacted businesses of all sizes. As a result of the unprecedented pandemic, many businesses are considering, or have already been, reducing their workforces (through layoffs, furloughs and reductions of hours) as a result of quarantines, governmental shutdowns, “stay at home” orders and the general interruption of business operations and the significant economic uncertainty.

At the same time, businesses are being inundated with evolving federal, state and local laws, regulations and executive orders that are literally distributed daily. Both the federal and New York State government have enacted legislation mandating job protected sick leave and other forms of leave for employees who are unable to work (or telework).
